Description & Appearance:

The Chihuahua’s coat come in a variety of colors and is either a long coat or smooth coat. They have large upright ears on its apple shaped head and pointed nose.

Temperament:

The Chihuahua is a quick and graceful breed. They are extremely loyal, affectionate and make a great lapdog. They have a surprisingly loud bark and are known to growl and bark when the doorbell dings. It may be tough to rid them of that habit, but they housebreak fairly easily and can learn tricks quickly too. This cute toy dog is smart and clever and they’ll use it to get your attention.

Health:

The health problems to look out for are congenital molera where the bones in the top of the head are not firmly fitted together leaving a “hole in the head”. This makes them more prone to injuries later in life. Breeders often deal with birthing and dental issues. Eye infections and weight problems are also common.

With proper care, this breed can live up to 15 years.

Care & Grooming:

They are mainly indoor dogs and thrive well in apartments. They are also an active breed and enjoy the occasional walks and romps through the park.

This breed is an average shedder. They need their teeth checked regularly and their nails trimmed. Grooming is fairly low maintenance with Chihuahuas.

History:

The history of Chihuahuas are believed to originate from The Aztec civilizations from a breed named Techichi. The Chihuahua was then named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua. This toy dog is now the oldest and smallest breed of the American continent.
