Description & Appearance:

The Havenese is a sturdy and robust dog for its small size. At 10 pounds, this agile breed doesn’t show fragility, but likes to play hard and doesn’t mind getting a little dirty. They have a double coat of fur which varies in color and multiple colors. Their coat is either long and wavy, smooth or curly. Their tail is flowing and resting past their back. The standard for this breed is to keep its natural look, so tails are left undocked, ears are uncropped and decorative bows or whale spouts are a no-no - that is if you plan on showing your Havanese.

Temperament:

The Havanese breed have an atypical temperament from many breeds in that they are very social with people and love to perform for them. They learn tricks fast and are always eager to show off. Silly is word often used to describe this fun-loving breed. They socialize easily and warm up to new faces quickly.

This toy breed also loves children and will make great playmates with kids both young and old. They also make great watch dogs which make this popular breed irresistible.

Health:

This breed sheds very little and while it can collect dander, this breed is considered hypoallergenic. With brushing, you can keep the dander to a minimum and keep the coat at a constant shine.

This breed is a healthy breed with very little hereditary problems. Barring any accidents, these fur-kids can expect to live 13 to 15 years.

Care & Grooming:

The Havenese are good indoor or apartment dogs and get much of their exercise playing with your and their toys. They should not be confined to small spaces however, as they need room to keep fit. They also enjoy the occasional walks and as an interested dog, they also enjoy the trips to town.

Grooming is maintained by regular brushing, clipping excess hair between pads on their feet, as well as regular cleaning of eyes and ears to prevent infection.
