Description & Appearance:

Japanese Chins are known for their silky straight hair and their feathered tails coiling back to rest on their backs. They are often characterized with their oriental-like faces. They have upturned noses, eyes set wide apart and feathered ears. The coat is generally thick and stands out in the neck, chest and shoulders.

Temperament:

Japanese Chins have an interesting character unique to them in that they exhibit cat-like traits. Its independent and washes its face with its paws. Chins are also much quieter then their other dog friends and more reserved. They’re not barkers and like to stay clean. As one might assume, they are friendly with other cats and pets.

Health:

Japanese Chins have some health issues to watch for. Luxating Patellas and heart murmurs are congenital defects often related to the breed. They can have breathing conditions because of their flat faces. This breed lives an average of 10 years.

Care & Grooming:

Chins thrive well indoors and require little exercise. They don’t do well in extreme weather. They are eager to please, but still require a little extra work to housebreak.

This breed sheds year round and need a daily brushing to keep the tangles out. Eyes and ears should be cleaned regularly to prevent infection.
