Scoodle Description & Appearance:

The Scoodle is a cross between the Scottish Terrier and the Poodle.

Scoodle Temperament:

Scotties are sweet and loving, Poodles are intelligent and attentive. Scoodles should be anything in between.

Scoodle Health:

Scoodles tend to be very healthy and will not have any of the defects found in the pure breed bloodlines of Scotties and Poodles.

Scoodle Care & Grooming:

The Scoodle will shed an average amount. The coat for this mix is medium length and should be brushed regularly to keep it clean and tangle-free. Bathe as necessary, but not often.

This mix can get all of their exercise indoors, but will enjoy the chance to run off leash at the local dog park. Housebreaking should be of average difficulty for Scoodle puppies.

Scoodle History:

As a hybrid breed, their history is short. Generally, Scoodle breeders and breeders of other hybrid breeds aim to breed one generation of Scoodle from purebred Scotties and Poodle parents. This is to take advantage of “hybrid vigor” and the Heterosis effect which results in a healthier, more vigorous dog with a reduced chance of genetic disease. Pure breeds and inbreeds often carry genetic disease. Heterosis is the phenomenon where crossing two inbred lines can yeild a progeny with superior genetic constitution. This increased health and vigor does not create a superior breed, but the advantages obtained from it is what produces hybrid vigor. This goal in this scenario is not to create a new breed, but to create a happy and healthy pet. The Scoodle breed is only recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club.
