Yorkinese Characteristics
Yorkinese Description & Appearance:
Yorkinese dogs are crossed between the Yorkshire Terrier and Pekingese making for a solid and sturdy mixed breed.
Yorkinese Temperament:
Playful and lively, the Yorkinese is a gentle and social companion. They’re happy temperament, and playfulness with children make them great addition to the family. They’re stubbornness can make them difficult to housebreak. Some have a tendency to bark. Yorkinese are however smart and can pick up obedience tasks easily.
Yorkinese Health:
Like most hybrid breed dogs, Yorkinese are healthy, vigorous and won’t exhibit any of the congenital defects from often seen from pure breeds and inbreeding.
Yorkinese Care & Grooming:
This mix will shed an average amount. This breed is an indoor breed and suited well for apartment life. They get much of their exercise running through the house and battling their toys. At the same time, they’re very active and enjoy traveling with you or taking the occasional walk
Yorkinese History:
As a hybrid breed, their history is short. Generally, Yorkinese breeders and breeders of other hybrid breeds aim to breed one generation of Yorkinese from purebred Yorkshire Terrier and Pekingese parents. This is to take advantage of “hybrid vigor” and the Heterosis effect which results in a healthier, more vigorous dog with a reduced chance of genetic disease. Pure breeds and inbreeds often carry genetic disease. Heterosis is the phenomenon where crossing two inbred lines can yield a progeny with superior genetic constitution. This increased health and vigor does not create a superior breed, but the advantages obtained from it is what produces hybrid vigor. This goal in this scenario is not to create a new breed, but to create a happy and healthy pet. The Yorkinese breed is only recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club.
